Vet Notes : dogs
Working dogs are special dogs that have learned to perform tasks. This term has come to include many jobs dogs enjoy doing with humans. Examples include service dogs that help people with disabilities such as the visually or hearing impaired and even people who suffer from seizures. Therapy dogs are used to cheer up people who are incapacitated in some way. They often visit Children’s hospitals or assisted living facilities to offer a canine hug. Hunting dogs are used to assist hunters with tracking and retrieving prey. Police dogs are highly trained to track and apprehend criminals, sniff out illegal substances and bombs. Working dogs were historically bred for their desirable characteristics such intelligence, loyalty and motivation. These traits over time have also made them very valued as pets.
